Diagnosing a brain tumour
If your doctor suspects a brain tumour, it is important that diagnostic tests are done quickly to determine the cause of your symptoms. If your symptoms are not related to a brain tumour, we can quickly refer you on to one of our other facilities in central London who can provide access to the appropriate expert.
The Private Brain Unit at University College Hospital can provide a rapid and comprehensive diagnostic service.
Diagnostic tests may include:
- Full medical examination
- Blood tests with access to advanced pathology laboratories
- CT / PET CT scanning
- 3T MR / MRI scanning
If tests diagnose a tumour then a second phase of tests will be carried out to establish the type and grade of the tumour and the appropriate treatment.
Throughout this process your consultant will keep you up to date with the results of each test, explain the results to you and advise on next steps and treatment plans. We will make sure you have all the information you need to make an informed decision about your treatment. Our support team includes specialist nurses, counsellors, psychologists and complementary therapists who are available to support you through diagnosis.
